Geotab HRN-CL24T2 Harness

The HRN-CL24T2 is Geotab's Ford gateway module harness, a 60 cm (24 in) lead used to connect a GO device at the factory gateway module on Ford vehicles. In California it may not be fitted in a way that relocates the diagnostic connector.

What Is the HRN-CL24T2?

The HRN-CL24T2 is a Geotab harness made for Ford vehicles, designed to connect a GO device at the factory Ford gateway module. It measures 60 cm (24 in) and sits in Geotab's make-specific harness group rather than with the universal OBD-II kits.

The gateway module is a factory part, and Geotab has paid particular attention to this module in its install bulletins, which tells you that Ford work deserves its own care. When a fleet sends us a work order for pickups or vans from Ford, part of our job is deciding whether the standard T-harness is enough or whether this dedicated harness is the right call.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-CL24T2 Work With?

Geotab ties this part to Ford vehicles that carry a gateway module. Its listing does not publish a model or year range, so we do not assume one. Before ordering, we look at the vehicle itself, find the gateway module and compare what we see against Geotab's install document for this harness.

The listing names no replacement history and no companion harness requirement. If a fleet is moving to GO10 hardware, we confirm the device pairing first, because Geotab offers the HRN-XBS16A1 bridge for specialty harnesses that have no GO10 version. That check happens before anything is shipped to the yard.

Some Fords bring their own quirks. Geotab's install notes say a Ford Fusion of any year cannot take the GO device straight on the diagnostic connector, so an extension is normally needed there. For Fords that Geotab lists with SDLC from 2015 on, the same notes describe tying the universal HRN-GS16K22-A to the factory module with two cable ties. Knowing which situation you face decides the parts list.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

A Ford service van or work truck usually goes back to the shop for diagnostics, and the technician there needs the port. A tracker hanging off that port in the wrong way gets unplugged, knocked loose or blamed for warning lights. The gateway harness gives the install a purpose-built connection point at the module, which keeps the GO device out of the driver's knee space and leaves the shop with a tidy, recognisable setup.

It also helps with data quality. A device that rocks on a loose plug drops in and out, and that shows up as patchy trips. A dedicated harness that is tied down properly cuts out that whole class of complaint.

How Is the HRN-CL24T2 Installed?

Geotab publishes a step-by-step document for this harness, and our technicians follow the current revision on the vehicle. The broad order of work looks like this:

  1. Park the Ford, turn the ignition off and remove the GO device from any previous harness.
  2. Take off whatever trim hides the gateway module, using plastic tools so the clips survive.
  3. Connect the HRN-CL24T2 at the gateway module as Geotab's guide shows, without moving the diagnostic connector from its factory location.
  4. Route the 60 cm lead to a mounting spot behind a panel, away from pedals, the steering column and airbag zones.
  5. Fasten the harness with cable ties, snug but not crushing; Geotab warns that overtightening ties at a Ford module can damage the connector.
  6. Plug in the GO device, tie it down so it cannot shift, then start the vehicle and watch for the LEDs to settle.
  7. Register the unit in MyInstall and confirm it reports in MyGeotab before the trim goes back on.

Keep the total connected harness length at or below 2 m (6.5 ft), and never stack one T-harness onto another.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

Ford trim clips break easily in cold weather, so warm the cab and use nylon tools. Pull cable ties firm and then stop, because a crushed connector at the module is a far bigger repair than a loose tie. Do not let the convenience of a 60 cm lead tempt anyone into relocating the diagnostic port, which runs into the California rule and annoys the next shop technician. Check that no harness is resting on the parking brake linkage or steering column once the panels are back.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-GS16K22-A: the universal OBD-II T-harness kit that Geotab's Ford bulletin ties to the factory module on many installs.
  • HRN-BS16S4: an OBD-II extension pack for moving the GO device, often the fix where the port will not accept it directly.
  • HRN-BD16S5: a special-order ALDL harness for older GM, Ford and Freightliner installs that uses the OEM connector.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-CL24T2?

Can the HRN-CL24T2 be used to move the OBD port somewhere handier?

Not in California, where Geotab notes it is currently prohibited to install this harness in a way that relocates the in-vehicle diagnostic connector. Elsewhere we still keep the factory port where it is unless there is a sound reason to change it.

How long is the HRN-CL24T2?

Geotab lists it at 60 cm, which is 24 in. Should you need more reach, extensions are allowed only while the full chain stays at 2 m (6.5 ft) or under.

Is there an install guide for this part?

Yes. Geotab publishes a dedicated installation document for the HRN-CL24T2, linked from its harness identification page, and our technicians work from the current version on every Ford job.
