Installer Sales Skills

Sell While You InstallFive short lessons for installers who fix it but don’t sell it

Installers fix it, but they don't sell it. The wiring is clean, the device reports, the customer is happy, and the van pulls away without a word about the next vehicle in the yard. This short course is for the installer who wants to change that without turning into someone customers avoid.

We built it around a simple idea: you already do the hard part. Walking into a customer's yard, opening a dash, finding a true ignition wire and leaving everything working takes real skill. What is missing is usually not skill but a habit, a few plain words and the confidence that saying one honest sentence is part of the job. Five short lessons cover it from the first question on install day to the review you ask for afterward.

A road with five numbered stops: talk during the install, spot what they need, explain it in plain words, handle price and ask for referrals and reviews

The five lessons

Who it is for

It is for installers who work alone, installers on a crew, and shop owners who want their people to feel comfortable talking to customers. It doesn't matter whether you install trackers, dash cameras, backup cameras or all three. The habits are the same, and each lesson stands on its own, so you can start with whichever one matches the problem you have this week.

What it is not

It is not a script and it is not a pressure tactic. Nothing in these lessons asks you to talk anyone into something they don't need. The goal is the opposite: to notice what a customer actually needs, say so once, and respect the answer. A customer who feels respected calls you back, and a customer who feels pushed doesn't.

Where the product comes from

You don't have to stock equipment or compete on hardware price to sell. When a customer says yes, send the request to a reseller you trust or point them to our install parts page, and keep doing what you do best. The install is the reason the customer called you, and it is the reason they will call you again.

How the lessons fit together

Lessons 1 and 2 are about noticing: what to ask and what to look for. Lessons 3 and 4 are about saying: how to explain the work and how to talk about price. Lesson 5 is about what happens after you leave. If you only have time for one, start with lesson 1. It changes how the rest of the install day feels.

The ground rules behind the course

Every lesson follows the same three rules. First, be honest about what a product can and cannot do, because an installer's word is the only warranty the customer can see. Second, put the customer's problem ahead of your product, which means asking before telling. Third, protect the work: a price can change and a schedule can change, but the standard of the install doesn't. If a lesson ever seems to ask you to break one of those, ignore the lesson and keep the rule.

Take it one lesson at a time

Read one lesson, try the habit on your next three jobs, and then move on to the next. There is no test and no deadline. Built by Installers, for Installers, these pages are meant to make your days better, not longer.
