The City of Charleston runs vehicles across the peninsula, West Ashley, James Island, Johns Island, Daniel Island and Cainhoy, and every one of those areas puts its own demands on a fleet. We install GPS tracking, dash and backup cameras, and telematics hardware for municipal departments, with clean wiring that holds up to salt air, heat and long idle hours. We offer equipment along with the installation, or we install hardware your department has already purchased.
Charleston Police Department. The City lists 453 sworn officers along with 119 professional staff. Patrol is organized into teams by area, including the peninsula north and south of Calhoun Street, West Ashley, James and Johns Islands, and Daniel Island, so patrol units spread across a wide footprint where location data and in-car video both matter.
Charleston Fire Department. A 2023 City presentation lists 17 frontline engines, 4 frontline aerials, 2 fireboats, a tender, a heavy rescue and a heavy HazMat unit. The department has held accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International since 2015 and was reaccredited in 2021. A new Station 23 has been under construction on Johns Island, which adds apparatus to an island already stretched by growth.
Department of Public Service. This department covers Engineering, Environmental Services (including solid waste routes), Fleet Management and Streets and Sidewalks. Streets and Sidewalks alone runs four sidewalk crews, one of them dedicated to brick and bluestone, plus an asphalt patch truck crew.
Department of Stormwater Management. Stormwater runs field operations crews that maintain the City drainage system, alongside regulatory, capital project and floodplain programs. During tidal flooding, City crews have cleared drains with Vactor trucks and pre-staged temporary pumps in low areas, which is exactly the kind of deployment a live map helps coordinate.
Parks, Livability and Tourism, and Traffic and Transportation. Parks manages grounds and facilities across roughly 120 parks. Livability and Tourism handles code enforcement and tourism enforcement, and Parking Enforcement patrols City parking laws.
Every major platform, installed on site for Charleston fleets.
Know where every unit sits when Calhoun Street or Lockwood Boulevard goes under at high tide. Supervisors can reroute crews around closures, confirm a Vactor truck reached Hagood Avenue, and pull trip history when a resident disputes a service visit on Daniel Island.

Forward and cabin cameras record what happens on Savannah Highway, Folly Road and the narrow lanes south of Broad Street. Backup cameras matter most for sanitation and Public Service trucks reversing into tight alleys and around parked tour traffic on the peninsula.

We install Geotab, Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Powerfleet and CalAmp. If the City has a contract with one platform for police and another for Public Service, we work with both and keep wiring consistent across vehicles.
City advisories have listed flood-prone spots such as Lockwood Boulevard at Broad Street, Calhoun Street between Courtenay Drive and Pitt Street, President Street, and Huger Street at King Street. Vehicles that drive through standing salt water need connectors placed high, sealed splices and harness routing that keeps moisture away from devices mounted low in the cab.
Narrow streets, tight turns and heavy pedestrian and carriage traffic downtown make camera coverage on corners and rear bumpers more valuable than usual.
The City crosses rivers and marsh to reach West Ashley, James Island, Johns Island, Daniel Island and Cainhoy. We schedule installs by yard and by district so vehicles leave service for as short a window as possible.
Several services people associate with Charleston are not run by the City. Emergency ambulance service is provided countywide by Charleston County EMS. Public bus service, including the free DASH downtown routes, is CARTA, which is managed by the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments. Parts of James Island are covered by the separate James Island Public Service District fire department.
We work at City yards and stations or at a location that suits your schedule, with installers based in the Charleston area.
Yes. We stage work by shift and by yard so only a few units are down at a time, which matters for police and fire apparatus that cannot leave coverage gaps.
We place devices and connections up high, seal every splice and route harnesses away from floor pans.
Both. We offer equipment along with installation, and we also install hardware the City has already bought through its own contracts.
Yes. We install all major brands, so Police can stay on one system while Public Service or Stormwater runs another.
Those fleets belong to Charleston County and CARTA, not the City. This page covers City departments, but you can contact us about other agencies directly.
