Tow Truck GPS Tracking: Wrecker, Rotator, Winch and Rollback Monitoring

Towing runs on records: when the truck arrived, when the hookup happened, how long a recovery took. We wire the wheel lift, boom, winch and bed into the tracker on wreckers, rotators and rollbacks, so every tow is logged with the time and the place automatically.

Fleet installs from $65 per vehicle. Testing a few vehicles first? We do pilot installs too.

What do we monitor on tow trucks and recovery?

Each picture shows the part that gets wired into the tracker, circled in red. These are illustrations, not photos of customer trucks. The sections below explain how each one is monitored.

How is a wrecker's wheel lift monitored?

A wrecker's wheel lift and boom run on hydraulics from the PTO. The PTO engaged signal records every time the equipment ran, at which address and for how long. For motor clubs, police rotation and private property work, that log backs up the invoice and the time on scene.

What can be tracked on a rotator?

Rotators bill by the hour on heavy recoveries, so the hours matter. The PTO signal gives equipment time, and outrigger switches show setup time on scene. Recorded with location, the platform gives a timeline of the recovery that supports the bill.

Can winch use be recorded?

Yes. A hydraulic winch runs from the PTO, and an electric winch from its own power circuit. Either can go to a tracker input, so winch time on a recovery is on record. Off-road and heavy recovery companies use it to document how long a pull took.

What is monitored on a rollback?

On a rollback the bed tilt and slide run from the PTO. Each load and unload shows on the map with the address. Our rollback tow truck monitoring page covers that install in full.

What does the office see once it is wired in?

How do we wire and test it?

We meter every signal before we use it, so the tracker records the equipment actually working, not a switch that was only requested. Power connections are fused, wiring is secured away from heat and moving parts, and each input is tested with the equipment running before the truck goes back out. Wire colors for the truck side are in our Vehicle Wiring Database. See all the equipment we monitor for the other trucks and equipment we wire in.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

Every major tracking platform can record PTO signals on tow trucks, and we wire them into all of them. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.

Common questions

Questions We Get Asked

Can a GPS tracker show when a tow truck hooked up a vehicle?

Yes. Wiring the PTO signal records when the wheel lift, boom or bed ran, with the time and location.

Do you install trackers on rotators?

Yes, including the PTO and outrigger signals used to document heavy recoveries.

Can rollback bed use be tracked?

Yes. The bed runs from the PTO, and that signal records each load and unload.
