We install vehicle GPS tracking, dash cams, backup cameras and telematics on City of Sarasota and Sarasota County fleets, from solid waste and utilities trucks to patrol units, transit support vehicles and off-road machines like backhoes and loaders, working at the 12th Street garage, a county shop or a job site.
The City of Sarasota runs its fleet from one address. The Fleet Maintenance Division sits inside Public Works, headquartered at 1761 12th Street, and the garage there is also the city's only fuel site, with four unleaded and four diesel pumps. Public Works covers solid waste, stormwater, infrastructure maintenance and engineering, and the city collects its own garbage and recycling. A separate Utilities Department runs a reverse osmosis plant and an advanced wastewater plant.
Police are the other big user of city vehicles. The Sarasota Police Department has 190 authorized sworn positions, and new officers get a take-home patrol car if they live within 50 miles. The city spent $1,201,647 on police vehicles in fiscal 2025. Fire is a county job here: the Sarasota County Fire Department covers the city along with unincorporated Sarasota County from 21 county-owned stations across 451 square miles.
The county is further along with telematics than most. Sarasota County Fleet Services maintains 1,305 on-highway and 418 off-highway units from three ASE Blue Seal shops, moved up to 13th on NAFA's 100 Best Fleets list, and was putting telematics on every on-road vehicle with off-road equipment next. Reports now pull nightly from the fleet system and telematics together. That leaves the off-road side, new vehicles and the city's own fleet as the open work.
Every major telematics and dash cam platform, fitted at a city garage, a county shop or the job site.
GPS fleet tracking on pickups, collection trucks and sedans, and engine-hour telematics on backhoes, loaders, mowers and other off-road equipment.
Road-facing and driver-facing AI dash cams, and backup camera installation on collection trucks and equipment working near crews on foot.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar and more, with ignition, PTO and engine-hour inputs on equipment that has no odometer.
By engine hours. A backhoe or a loader is serviced and billed by the hour, not the mile, so we wire the GPS unit to ignition and an engine-hour signal and seal it against water and vibration. A geofence around each job site lets the platform total hours by project, which is what a public works manager is asked for at budget time.
That every truck is needed at once. After Milton the city activated three contracted debris haulers running 21-cubic-yard trucks, and more than 200 public works, utilities and parks staff worked out of the emergency operations center. The city had counted 280,260 cubic yards of debris by November 18, 2024, against 91,000 cubic yards and 3,200 loads after Ian in 2022. Live fleet tracking shows which city units are working which zone while that is going on.
It gives a natural point to plan around. The county's new fleet maintenance facility, about 85,000 square feet with emergency vehicle maintenance and upfitting, is under a $43,458,421 contract and scheduled to finish in summer 2027. Fitting telematics during upfit, before a unit goes into service, avoids pulling it back out later.
Yes, alongside the agency's own upfitters. The Sheriff's Office Fleet Services Bureau handles more than 900 pieces of rolling stock and upfits its Tahoes in house with lights, sirens and storage. On units like those, we fit AVL and GPS hardware on its own circuit, away from the lighting and siren wiring, and fit in with the upfit schedule.
City facilities, Sarasota County shops and stations, and the towns across the county.
City garage, county shop or job site: we install where the vehicles and machines are parked.
Road vehicles are priced per unit by type and platform. Off-road machines with engine-hour and ignition wiring take longer, so they are quoted on their own line once we know the models.
Yes. Backhoes, loaders, mowers and similar machines can take a sealed GPS unit with ignition and engine-hour inputs, fitted at the shop or where the machine is parked.
Yes. We fit GPS units, dash cams and backup cameras on collection and utilities trucks and can wire PTO inputs where the platform supports them.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar, Azuga and most others. We are an independent Geotab Authorized Installer, so the system stays the one the county or city already chose.
Yes. If we know the upfit schedule, we fit the GPS unit and dash cam while the vehicle is already in the bay, so it goes into service finished.
