Concrete Truck Tracking: Mixer Drum and Pump Monitoring

Ready mix runs on the clock: how long a load has been batched, when the pour started, how long the pump ran. We wire the drum and the pump into the tracker on mixers and pump trucks, so the office sees each pour as it happens.

Fleet installs from $65 per vehicle. Testing a few vehicles first? We do pilot installs too.

What do we monitor on concrete trucks?

Each picture shows the part that gets wired into the tracker, circled in red. These are illustrations, not photos of customer trucks. The sections below explain how each one is monitored.

How is a mixer drum monitored?

The mixer drum turns on a hydraulic drive from the engine. A drum signal, from the drum drive or a sensor on the drum, shows when the drum was turning and, on systems that read direction, when it was discharging. Recorded with location, that is pour time at each job, which ready mix producers use for scheduling and billing.

How are concrete pump hours tracked?

A boom pump runs from the truck's PTO. The PTO signal records pump hours at each pour, which is how most pumping companies bill. It also gives hours for boom and pump service.

Why does pour time matter to a ready mix producer?

Concrete has a limited working time after batching, and plants schedule loads so each truck arrives and pours inside that window. When the drum signal and the truck's location are on the same map, dispatch sees which trucks are waiting on site, which are pouring and which are washing out, and can hold or send the next load. Time waiting to pour is also billable on many jobs, and the record backs it up.

What should a ready mix company tell us before the job?

What does the office see once it is wired in?

How do we wire and test it?

We meter every signal before we use it, so the tracker records the equipment actually working, not a switch that was only requested. Power connections are fused, wiring is secured away from heat and moving parts, and each input is tested with the equipment running before the truck goes back out. Wire colors for the truck side are in our Vehicle Wiring Database. See all the equipment we monitor for the other trucks and equipment we wire in.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

Every major tracking platform can record drum and pump signals, and we wire them into all of them. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.

Common questions

Questions We Get Asked

Can a tracker show when a mixer was pouring?

Yes, with a drum signal wired to the tracker. Systems that read drum direction can tell mixing from discharging.

Can concrete pump hours be tracked?

Yes. The pump's PTO signal records hours at each pour.

Do you install on ready mix fleets?

Yes, across the eight states we cover.

Do you install in my state?

We install across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi, at your yard or job site.
