Which wires give constant, ignition and ground on a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse?
On a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, take constant power from the Red/Green or Red/Blue wire at the blunt-cut brake controller wires inside the driver side of the dash, below the headlamp switch (if equipped, and dead until it is connected at the underhood fuse block), ignition from the Purple/Black wire at the BCM plug X3, green 25-pin, pin 6, and ground to the Black wire at the same bundle of four wires. Meter every wire first.
Written by API Signal, fleet GPS and camera installers for 35+ years across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, installing every major telematics and camera brand. Every wire on this page lists its source.
Test every wire with a meter before you tap it
No wiring information is ever guaranteed. Colors and locations change with trim, options and build date, and the manufacturer can change them in the middle of a model year. We share this as a starting point for installers, and you are responsible for confirming every connection on the truck in front of you.
This page covers the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse.
Every Traverse of this body has push-button start, so there is no key switch to tap. Ignition, brake and CAN wires are at the BCM beside the center console, from one maker guide. Constant, ground and the lamp wires come from the brake controller and trailer wiring in the GM owner manual, which not every vehicle has. Our own team has not yet metered these on a 2020 vehicle.

Where do I get constant, ignition and ground on a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse?
Take constant, ignition and ground from the same area where you can.
Option 1 Ignition
BCM at the center console
Right side of the center console, behind the front floor console side panel.
Constant
Not found
Not foundNo constant wire was found at the BCM. Use option 2 or a fuse tap.
Ignition
Purple/Black
BCM plug X3, green 25-pin, pin 6Hot in run.
Ground
Body ground
Body metal under the dashClean, bare metal only. Never the battery negative post.
GM says a leaking A/C drain hose can wet the BCM plugs on these years, and that static can damage the BCM. Touch bare metal before you unplug anything. GM bulletin 19-NA-271 also takes an ignition feed from a Violet/Black wire at pin 1 of plug M73B under the passenger seat, on vehicles with ventilated seats only.
Option 2 Constant and ground
Brake controller wires
If equipped. Four capped wires taped to the harness under the driver side of the dash.
Constant
Red/Green or Red/Blue
Blunt-cut brake controller wires inside the driver side of the dash, below the headlamp switch (if equipped, and dead until it is connected at the underhood fuse block)Battery feed. The manual gives two possible colors. Meter it first: GM leaves this wire unconnected at the fuse block.
Ground
Black
Same bundle of four wiresGround wire for a brake controller.
From the GM owner manual. Not every Traverse has these wires. The other two are Blue (to the trailer brakes) and White/Blue (brake signal).
Ignition wire from the iDatalink install guide for 2018 to 2021. Brake controller wires from the GM owner manual.
