Which wires give constant, ignition and ground on a 2016 Ram ProMaster?

On a 2016 Ram ProMaster, take constant power from the Red/Black wire at the ignition switch, white 3-pin plug, pin 2, ignition from the Blue/Red wire at the ignition switch, white 4-pin plug, pin 2, and ground to clean, bare body metal. Meter every wire first.

Written by API Signal, fleet GPS and camera installers for 35+ years across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, installing every major telematics and camera brand. Every wire on this page lists its source.

Test every wire with a meter before you tap it

No wiring information is ever guaranteed. Colors and locations change with trim, options and build date, and the manufacturer can change them in the middle of a model year. We share this as a starting point for installers, and you are responsible for confirming every connection on the truck in front of you.

This page covers the 2016 Ram ProMaster: cargo van, window van, cutaway and chassis cab. The ignition switch plugs on the steering column have constant, ignition and accessory.

Power, park, lock and CAN wires come from the Directed guide for 2014 to 2016 vans, and the upfitter colors from Ram's 2016 upfitter sheet. The other body wires come from the 2017 list. Our own team has not yet metered these on a 2016 van, and each row says so.

Where do I get constant, ignition and ground on a 2016 Ram ProMaster?

Take constant, ignition and ground from the same area. On this van the ignition switch plugs on the steering column have constant, ignition and accessory, and vans built with Ram's upfitter package (option BC3) also have power and signal plugs at the passenger side B-pillar.

Option 1 Easiest

Ignition switch plugs

Steering column, white 3-pin and white 4-pin plugs. Key start.

Constant
Red/Black
Ignition switch, white 3-pin plug, pin 2Always hot, 20A. The Directed 2014 to 2016 guide and the 2017 list agree.
Ignition
Blue/Red
Ignition switch, white 4-pin plug, pin 2Hot in run and start (ignition 1). A second ignition is White/Black on the 3-pin plug, pin 1.
Ground

The starter is Brown/White or Brown/Gray on the 3-pin plug. Directed and the 2017 list put it on pin 3 and the second ignition on pin 1; iDatalink swaps those two pins, so meter before you tap. Never tap the starter. A second constant, Red 70A, is on the BCM gray 2-pin plug, pin A.
Option 2 Upfitter package

Upfitter connectors

Constant

Upfitter 15-way accessory connector, pin 13Ignition feed, 600mA max on a 5A fuse. Enough for a GPS or camera.
Ground
Black
Upfitter power connector, pin 2Ram's ground pin on the upfitter power connector.
Pin 3 of the 15-way accessory connector is vehicle speed (Brown/Light Green). Check the van has the BC3 plugs before planning on them.

Ignition switch colors from the Directed install guide for 2014 to 2016 ProMasters (fetched twice) and a 2017 ProMaster wire list on the12volt, which agree. Upfitter colors from Ram's ProMaster upfitter sheets (OEM).
