Which wires give constant, ignition and ground on a 2016 Ram ProMaster City?
On a 2016 Ram ProMaster City, take constant power from the Red/Green wire at the ignition switch, black 3-pin plug, pin 2, ignition from the Dark Blue wire at the ignition switch, black 2-pin plug, pin 2, and ground to clean, bare body metal. Meter every wire first.
Written by API Signal, fleet GPS and camera installers for 35+ years across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, installing every major telematics and camera brand. Every wire on this page lists its source.
Test every wire with a meter before you tap it
No wiring information is ever guaranteed. Colors and locations change with trim, options and build date, and the manufacturer can change them in the middle of a model year. We share this as a starting point for installers, and you are responsible for confirming every connection on the truck in front of you.
This page covers the 2016 Ram ProMaster City.
This van has a standard key. Three sources agree on the ignition switch wires. The body wires come from a 2021 wire sheet and are carried back to this year, so meter them. Our own team has not yet metered these on a 2016 van.

Where do I get constant, ignition and ground on a 2016 Ram ProMaster City?
Take constant, ignition and ground from the same area.
Option 1 Easiest
Ignition switch plugs
Steering column. Two small black plugs, a 3-pin and a 2-pin. Key start on every year.
Constant
Red/Green
Ignition switch, black 3-pin plug, pin 2Always hot, 20A. Sources call the stripe Green, Dark Green or Light Green, all on the same pin.
Ignition
Dark Blue
Ignition switch, black 2-pin plug, pin 2Hot in run. Orange on the 3-pin plug, pin 1, is the second ignition wire.
Ground
Body ground
Body metal under the dashClean, bare metal only. Never the battery negative post. No source named a factory ground point.
Accessory
Gray
Ignition switch, black 2-pin plug, pin 1Hot in accessory and run.
The starter is White/Red on the 3-pin plug, pin 3. Never tap the starter. Three sources agree on these pins.
Option 2 Factory option BC3
Upfitter plugs
Behind the driver side knee panel, if the van was ordered with the upfitter connector.
Constant
Red
Upfitter 2-pin power plug, pin 1Always hot, fused at 50A. Only on vans built with the upfitter option.
Ignition
Blue/Yellow
Upfitter 15-pin plug, pin 13Hot in run. Ram limits it to 600 mA, so use it as a sense wire or for a tracker, not a heavy load.
Ground
Black
Upfitter 2-pin power plug, pin 2Factory power ground.
From Ram's upfitter connector instruction sheet, dated 2018. It prints no model years. Ram says this option cannot be added later, so many vans will not have these plugs.
