Which wires give constant, ignition and ground on a 2012 Kenworth T170, T270 and T370?

On a 2012 Kenworth T170, T270 and T370, take constant power from the Red wire at the spare circuit connector in the dash harness, behind the dash panel, labeled RED1211-0, ignition from the Orange wire at the spare circuit connector in the dash harness, behind the dash panel, labeled ORN1221-0, and ground to the White wire at the optional body harness, wire tagged GND. Meter every wire first.

Written by API Signal, fleet GPS and camera installers for 35+ years across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, installing every major telematics and camera brand. Every wire on this page lists its source.

Test every wire with a meter before you tap it

No wiring information is ever guaranteed. Colors and locations change with trim, options and build date, and the manufacturer can change them in the middle of a model year. We share this as a starting point for installers, and you are responsible for confirming every connection on the truck in front of you.

This page covers the 2012 Kenworth T170, T270 and T370 with the multiplexed dash.

Kenworth gives installers labeled spare circuits behind the dash panel: three battery wires and two ignition wires, each with its own fuse position. Those are the power wires on this page. Lamp wires are in the optional body harness, where every wire end carries a tag. Our own team has not yet metered these on a 2012 truck.

Where do I get constant, ignition and ground on a 2012 Kenworth T170, T270 and T370?

Kenworth provides labeled spare circuits behind the dash for exactly this. Use them before you tap anything else.

Option 1 Constant and ignition

Spare circuits behind the dash

Labeled connectors in the dash harness. Three battery circuits and two ignition circuits.

Constant
Red
Spare circuit connector in the dash harness, behind the dash panel, labeled RED1211-0Spare battery circuit 1, 15 amps, fuse position F49. RED1212-0 is spare battery 2 (15 amps, F50) and RED1213-0 is spare battery 3 (20 amps, F29).
Ignition
Orange
Spare circuit connector in the dash harness, behind the dash panel, labeled ORN1221-0Spare ignition circuit 1, 15 amps, fuse position F81. ORN1222-0 is spare ignition 2 (15 amps, F80).
Ground
White
Optional body harness, wire tagged GNDGround wire of the body harness. Kenworth says power and return lines for added equipment go to the battery, and the frame must not be used as a ground.
From Kenworth. Each spare circuit is dead until you put a fuse in its numbered position in the fuse panel behind the dash. A truck can have up to five of these, depending on how it was ordered, and the factory may already be using some of them.
Option 2 Aux power and ground

Body harness

Optional harness for body equipment, with tagged wire ends.

Aux power
Blue
Optional body harness, wire tagged AUX PWROne 15 amp circuit. With a fuse in position F79 it is live only with the ignition on. With a fuse in position F36 it is live all the time. Kenworth says not to use it for anything else if it feeds a trailer.
Ground
White
Optional body harness, wire tagged GNDGround wire of the body harness.
From Kenworth. The body harness plugs in on the left frame rail, directly behind the battery box. It ships coiled up loose in the cab, with a tag on each wire end.

All wires from Kenworth's T170, T270 and T370 body builders manual (December 2011), which covers trucks with 2010 emissions engines. Kenworth says a 2010 chassis can be picked out by its diesel exhaust fluid gauge.
