Which wires give constant, ignition and ground on a 2009 Ford F-150?
On a 2009 Ford F-150, take constant power from the Violet/Red wire at the ignition switch, gray 10-pin plug (pin not given) and ignition from the White/Orange wire at the ignition switch, gray 10-pin plug, pin 1, and ground to clean, bare body metal. Meter every wire first.
Written by API Signal, fleet GPS and camera installers for 35+ years across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, installing every major telematics and camera brand. Every wire on this page lists its source.
Test every wire with a meter before you tap it
No wiring information is ever guaranteed. Colors and locations change with trim, options and build date, and the manufacturer can change them in the middle of a model year. We share this as a starting point for installers, and you are responsible for confirming every connection on the truck in front of you.
This page covers the 2009 Ford F-150, the first year of the 12th-generation truck. It came with a 4.6 two-valve V8 on a four-speed automatic, or a 4.6 three-valve or 5.4 V8 on a six-speed. Every 2009 truck is key start. Ford also offered its Work Solutions package that year, including the Crew Chief GPS box under the dash, so check for an old factory unit before adding a second device.
The wire colors come from installer-reported tables on the12volt for 2009 and 2010 trucks, and an installer who pinned out both years says they should be identical. The free sources we checked did not list the turn signal wires, so those rows say not found rather than guessing. Our own team has not yet metered these on a 2009 truck, and each row says so.

Where do I get constant, ignition and ground on a 2009 Ford F-150?
Take constant, ignition and ground from the same area. On this truck the ignition switch is the easiest single spot, and the SJB in the passenger kick panel is the second option.
Option 1 Easiest
At the ignition switch
Steering column, driver side. Key-start trucks only; there is no push-button start in this generation.
Constant
Violet/Red
Ignition switch, gray 10-pin plug (pin not given)"Battery" feed at the switch, on fuse 16 (15A). Installer-reported; the pin number is not published.
Ignition
White/Orange
Ignition switch, gray 10-pin plug, pin 1Hot in run and start. Thin 18-gauge wire.
Ground
Body ground
Ground bolts, upper driver kick panelFactory ground bolts a short reach from the switch, per a 2009 to 2010 install pictorial.
Accessory
Violet/Green
Ignition switch, gray 10-pin plug, pin 5Hot in accessory and run
Start
Blue/White
Ignition switch, gray 10-pin plug, pin 10Hot only while cranking
The switch plug sits on the left side of the column, behind the tilt lever. Key sense is Blue/Gray on pin 3; the two installer tables disagree on its polarity.
Option 2
At the SJB
Smart junction box, which is also the passenger fuse panel. Passenger kick panel.
Constant
Red
SJB black 1-pin plug G, pin 1Main battery feed through fusible links A and B. An installer notes two Red wires here and fuses his tap at 20A.
Ignition
Blue/Red
Right kick panel, SJB plug C2280D, pin 16"Blue or Blue/Red" per the Camera-Source guide for 2009 to early 2012. Meter it.
Ground
Body ground
No ground wire listed at the SJBUse clean body metal in the passenger kick area. Never the battery negative post.
The biggest constant on the truck. Useful when the device mounts on the passenger side.
