Which wires give constant, ignition and ground on a 2007 Volvo VNL and VNM?
On a 2007 Volvo VNL and VNM, take constant power from the 9-pin diagnostic connector, driver side kick panel, cavity B, wire stamped 402 (wire color not published), ignition from the 9-pin diagnostic connector, driver side kick panel, cavity J, wire stamped 196DR (wire color not published), and ground to clean, bare body metal. Meter every wire first.
Written by API Signal, fleet GPS and camera installers for 35+ years across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, installing every major telematics and camera brand. Every wire on this page lists its source.
Test every wire with a meter before you tap it
No wiring information is ever guaranteed. Colors and locations change with trim, options and build date, and the manufacturer can change them in the middle of a model year. We share this as a starting point for installers, and you are responsible for confirming every connection on the truck in front of you.
This page covers the 2007 Volvo VNL and VNM built from November 2005, before Volvo changed to 2007 emissions engines. A truck with a 2007 emissions engine uses a newer wiring diagram, so check the build date first.
Volvo identifies these wires by a number stamped into the insulation, not by color. The only colors Volvo prints are yellow and green for the J1939 data wires. Every wire number on this page is from the Volvo service manual. Our own team has not yet metered these on a 2007 truck.

Where do I get constant, ignition and ground on a 2007 Volvo VNL and VNM?
Volvo does not color code these wires. It stamps the circuit number into the insulation every 3 inches, so read the number on the wire.

Pins and wire numbers from Volvo. Pin 4 (wire 196) is the ignition and auxiliary feed. Pin 6 (wire 284) is the starter relay feed and pin 7 (wire 245) is the preheat request. Leave pins 6 and 7 alone.
From Volvo's Group 30 Electrical General service manual for the VN and VHD (from build date November 2005). Volvo's wire rule for these trucks: black, numbered wires are fused, powered circuits. White wires are ground. Red wires are hot at all times and protected by fusible links.
