It runs 16 miles from the North Springs MARTA station to McFarland Parkway, delivered under a 56-year contract worth about $4.6 billion. Construction started in early April 2026 and the lanes are anticipated to open in 2031. The corridor already carries over 250,000 vehicles a day. The segment between Riverside and Holcomb Bridge Roads — Roswell's segment — is in active work, and the southbound Exit 5 closure has been replaced by temporary exits.

Here is the part that matters for telematics: your historical route times are about to stop being a valid baseline. If you are measuring crew productivity against numbers you collected before April 2026, you will conclude your crews got slower. They did not. We set up reporting on these fleets so drive time is separated from on-site time, because otherwise construction delay gets read as a performance problem and the wrong person gets a conversation.
No. Georgia's express lanes are limited to vehicles with two axles and six wheels or fewer. Vehicles with trailers and tractor-trailer trucks are not allowed, and GDOT's own project material for SR 400 states that freight vehicles and trailers are excluded. Enforcement is real — Georgia DPS handles commercial vehicle violations in the express lanes, with fines under state law plus a separate tolling authority violation.

The relief lane being built through your town, for the next five years, will not be usable by the majority of your vehicles when it opens. Plan routes and customer arrival windows on the general purpose lanes, because that is where your trucks will be.
